Cybersecurity Attacks: Are You Ready?
Now more than ever cybersecurity concerns are on the rise. Every day people browse the internet and download online files, without considering the potential consequences of their actions. With the rapid growth of technology and millions working from home, threats in information security have become a worldwide issue. In fact, “since the pandemic began, the FBI reported a 300% increase in reported cybercrimes” (Sobers, 2021).
With every technological advancement, cybercriminals adapt their methods and techniques to outsmart new developments. Malware, ransomware, phishing — the list will only continue to grow as we continue to move towards a digital world. A study conducted by Cybersecurity Ventures® found that “cybercrime will cost the global economy $6.1 trillion annually by 2021. With the pandemic serving as a catalyst, cybercrime is expected to soon become the world’s third-largest economy” (Meharchandani, 2020). These numbers can’t be ignored, so what can you do to stay aware and protect yourself online?
Keep yourself up to date with current events, security concerns, and resources that will help keep your data secure. Do a quick search on your internet browser to find a source that appeals to you and do regular check-ins to stay on track. Do some research on the different types of cybersecurity software available. Some of the more common ones include antivirus software, firewall etc. Whether you surf and use the internet for personal pleasure, for work, or for running your business, cybersecurity software is a good investment to make. With a little research, you can make sure that you and your business are safe to operate online.
